Causes of female sexual Dysfunction

Several factors may cause female sexual dysfunction. These factors might be physical or psychological. Sexual dysfunction in female may involve a reduction in sex drive, difficulty being aroused, or pain during sexual activity

Physical Causes:

  • Testosterone enhances the sex drive and estrogen keeps the vaginal area moist.

  • Heart and hypertension medicines may cause sexual dysfunction

  • Sleep aids and some other drugs might reduce sexual desire

  • Infections such as vaginal infection, rectal can cause pain during intercourse

  • Hormonal changes, heart disease can result into sexual dysfunction

  • Lack of lubrication

Psychological causes

  • Depression or anxiety

  • Communication problems with partner

  • Feeling of guilt and shame about sex

  • History of sexual abuse

Treatment for sexual dysfunction may depend on the cause. It may include changing medication, surgery, changes in your current sexual activity, or some medication. Psychological counseling is alos recommended.
